Connie F. George passed from this life on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 20, 1939, to the late William Newgent and Frances Cooper Steeby.
She graduated from Graham High School. Connie will be remembered in the Savannah community as a devoted city council member and respected Savannah Mayor. She was employed for many years with Durham School Services and was still a dispatcher for them until her passing.
She was a member of Savannah First Baptist Church.
Connie was united in marriage with Carroll “Geno” George on June 1, 1957. Geno passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by daughters, Cogie (Larry) Lowry and Toni (Ronnie) Myer; sons, Jeff (Angie) George and Shawn (Sandra) George; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Gary (Wanda) Steeby.
In lieu of flowers, Connie’s family requests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association.
Celebration of Life will be held at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
