Thomasine LaDon Madget, 95, known fondly as Tomi, was born on July 14, 1928, in St. Joseph, MO, and passed away on October 14, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
An individual of strong faith, Tomi never spoke ill of anyone. She was known amongst her friends for her beautiful fashion sense and collection of hats. As a hostess, she had a flair for throwing memorable gatherings. Her children and grandchildren recall countless fond moments around her table, a testament to her ability to transform simple meals into special reunions filled with love and laughter.
Tomi committed herself to make a difference in the lives of others. She served as a past president of the Chapter EE of the PEO, a member of the Runcie Club, and the St. Joseph Flower Society. Her passion for advocacy was paramount in her role as President and Founder of Self Help Hard of Hearing (SHHH) and as a pioneer of closed captioning at KQTV. Tomi's community service also found her as the Republican Committee Chairwoman, TTT Chapter F, Questers, and a member of the League of Women Voters. She was a loyal member of Francis Street United Methodist Church.
Tomi is survived by her children Robbie Gallinger (Russ), Nancy Savely-Grier (Mark), and Andrew Madget (Julie); grandchildren, Brett Gallinger (Tara), Ellen Poortinga (Marc), Matt Gallinger (Nicole), Penny Popoola (Delè), Bobby Madget (Megan), and Tom Madget (Kelley); 14 treasured great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Madget, to whom she married on February 28, 1953, until his passing in 1981. She was also predeceased by her parents, Ed and Minnie (Hall) Jager.
Thomasine "Tomi" LaDon Madget had a loving spirit that enriched the lives of all who knew her. We celebrate her beautiful life of service and love. She will be profoundly missed and will forever live in the hearts she touched through the years.
