Mary Louise Showalter Howes died November 29, 2024, at Carriage Square Nursing Home, St. Joseph, MO.
She was born January 11, 1925, Holt County MO. She graduated from Sheridan High School, Sheridan, MO, and attended State Teachers College, Greeley, CO. During WWII she worked at Carnegie Steel, Chicago, IL. On April 20, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart Floyd V. Howes.
Mary was a bookkeeper at Frontier Electric Supply, Cheyenne, WY for 15 years; and a Records Specialist for the State of Wyoming Department of Environmental Land Quality, Cheyenne, WY. She retired in 1987, and in 1989 she and Floyd moved to St. Joseph.
Mary was a member of State of Wyoming Retirees Association, Ashland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Wesleyan Sunday School Class, Ashland Adult Choir, and the Early American Singers. Her first love was family; her second was music.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Mary Pamela Howes, parents Ralph A. Showalter and Bessie L. Edwards Showalter, stepmother Johnnie B. Veazey Showalter, sisters Betty Langosch, Beverly Beeney, Darlene LaBorde, Nadine Hendrix, Peggy Snyder, and brothers Ralph, Lynn and Kirk Showalter.
Survivors are children Marsha Howes, Cockeysville, MD, Floyd C. Howes, Windsor, CO, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings Connie Renee, Deborah Johnson, Donna Barrett, Cindy Showalter, and Terry Showalter.
The body has been cremated. Date for memorial service and internment at Tharp Cemetery, Craig, MO to be determined. The family has requested memorials be made to the Friends of Sharp’s Grove and Tharp Cemetery, or Mosaic Hospice Care.
