Delta variant outbreaks are popping up more in Missouri and Kansas according to the Doniphan County Health Department.

Health Department Administrator Sheryl Pierce says she wants to emphasize if you are not feeling well, stay home.

“If you feel like it’s sinuses, or allergies, or you’re not feeling well, please do not go around a large crowd. Please do not go around a big gathering. Please don’t go to the 4-H Fair or the swimming pools until you get tested,” Pierce tells St. Joseph Post. “We have free testing so there is no excuse not to get tested.”

The COVID vaccine is believed to be 88% effective against the Delta variant according to the health department.

Health Department Administrator Sheryl Pierce encourages the community to get the vaccine. She says the Delta variant has hit the young population hard.

“We’ve had 12-year-olds, we have got a 7-month-old, 45-year-olds, 25-year-olds,” says Pierce. “We have two hospitalized presently. Our positivity rate has increased to 25.71%.”

Health Department Administrator Sheryl Pierce says people are developing Post COVID syndrome.

“Respiratory problems, chest pains, anxiety, depression, fatigue, you know and it lingers on and on,” says Pierce.

The Doniphan County Health Department will be providing a vaccine clinic tomorrow during the Doniphan County 4-H Fair. They will also have vaccine clinics the next two weeks during the Doniphan West, Riverside, and Troy school enrollment times.

The general public is invited to any of these events to receive their vaccine.
