Karon Kay “Sarah” Daugherty, the daughter of Herbert and Ruth (Smalley) Whitney, was born October 30, 1941 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in the Class of 1960. She then attended bookkeeping school in Omaha, NE.
On February 13, 1963, Sarah was united in marriage to Donald Leroy Daugherty in Rock Port by Judge Savage. They became the parents of four children; Susette, Jeffrey, Michael, and Rhonda. They began their marriage in Shenandoah, and then moved to Rock Port in 1966 where they raised their family.
Sarah was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed cooking and canning. In 1988 Donald and Sarah started their own business, Hillcrest LP Service, which they operated together for 18 years. Sarah worked as the bookkeeper for the business until they retired in 2006.
Sarah loved spending time at Big Lake and at their cabin on the Missouri River with her husband Donald until he passed away in April of 2015. She then made her home outside of Rock Port until the last couple of years when she moved to the Rock Port Senior Housing. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks, doing genealogy, visiting with her neighbors, feeding the squirrels and watching the birds.
Sarah passed away suddenly at her home on the evening of Friday, February 17, 2023 with her son Michael and daughter-in-law Lory Anne by her side.
Besides her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her daughter, Rhonda Kunkel, and sister-in-law, Carol Shallenberger.
Survivors include her daughter, Susette Taylor and husband Tim of Rock Port; her son, Jeffrey Daugherty of Birmingham, Alabama; her son, Michael Daugherty and wife, LoryAnne, of Rock Port; eleven grandchildren, Crystal Goins and husband Michael of Rock Port, Adam Meyerkorth and wife Courtney of Rock Port, Mallory Taylor of Omaha, NE, Micah Meyerkorth and wife Bekah of Platte City, MO, Heather Engle and husband Wesley of Mayhill, NM, Zachery Easley of Alamogordo, NM, Drake Daugherty and wife Kimberly, Ashlynn Lingerfelt and husband Andrew, Kinleigh Daugherty and Cooper Daugherty all of Rock Port, and Tiffany Bowness and husband Daniel of Mound City, MO; sixteen great grandchildren, Madison, Carson, Jasiah, Nora, Archer, Bertie, Mason, Luke, Xander, Briar, Blaykleigh, Ivy, Luxtyn, Autumn, Avery and Dakota; two great-great grandchildren, Laine and Leo; and one brother-in-law, Bill Daugherty of Rock Port.
A family graveside inurnment will be held at Hunter Cemetery at a later date.
