St. Joseph police have released the identity of the officer involved in the shooting earlier this week.
The St. Joseph Police Department reports Patrolman Justin Zamzow, a four-year veteran of the police force, was the officer who shot and wounded 32-year-old Cody Calvin. Calvin remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The department says officers responded to a call that a man was pointing a gun at several people in the Altec parking lot off Riverside Road late Monday evening. The department says officers gave numerous orders for Calvin to drop his weapon and surrender. When Calvin pointed the gun at officers, Zamzow fired and struck him.
Officers immediately rendered first aid, according to the department. Emergency crews rushed Calvin to the hospital.
Zamzow has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with St. Joseph Police Department policy while an investigation of the shooting is conducted. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation.
