
Alberta Mae “Bert” Kelly, 87, Atchison, Kansas, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at her residence with family by her side.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Second Christian Church with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, March 29th, from 1:00 until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Bert may be made to Second Christian Church and left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom final arrangements have been entrusted.
Alberta was born May 27, 1935, in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of David M. Hunter Sr. and Arthine B. Dudley Hunter. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Atchison High School.
Alberta worked for over thirty years as a certified nurse assistant for Atchison Hospital and Cray Senior Manor until her retirement in the 1980s. In her early years, she worked at the Henderson Drug Store.
Alberta and Theodore “Ted” Kelly were united in marriage in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Kelly preceded her in death on May 13, 2018. She also enjoyed many years with a longtime companion, William C. “Junior” Everage who also preceded her in death on December 28, 2010.
Alberta was formerly a member of Second Christian Church in Atchison. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending auctions and garage sales. Bert also was involved in crafts, mostly embroidering and her green thumb in gardening and planting in her yard. She was very creative in her home decorating and interior design. Bert was the matriarch of the family making sure everyone was included.
Survivors include her mother, Arthine B. Hunter, Atchison, KS; two daughters, Arthine Kelly, Topeka, KS; Sherri Kelly, Topeka, KS; three sons, Curtis Kelly, Sioux Falls, SD; Steve Everage, Atchison, KS; Mickey Everage, Atchison, KS; two grandchildren, Ebony Knott; Shayla Sneller; and one great granddaughter, Stormy Knott; two nieces, Terri Lynn Hunter and Tinita Jo (James) Knight and one nephew, David M. Hunter III., and a host of cousins and friends and a special friend Ricky Rawls.
She was preceded in death by her father, David M. Hunter, Sr.; her husband, Ted Kelly; her companion, William C. Everage; two sons, Mark Richard Kelly; Christopher Kelly; and a brother, David M. (Sandra) Hunter Jr.
