The Missouri Western State University Center for Workforce Development is hosting a series designed to develop better leaders within the workplace.
Director Rebecca Lobina says the three-part series, which begins this Friday, is designed for employees in the workforce who already led, or those who employers think could make good leaders.
"A lot of people who become leaders of people, that's not initially what they signed up to do, right? They may have been really great at making widgets, or fixing computers, or whatever the case may be," Lobina says on the KFEQmunnity show. "But then their boss sees something in them and they're like you're really good at this let's promote you, and then once they're leading people and not focusing as much on the technical side of things, it's a little bit different."
Lobina adds navigating that new position can be a little tricky, and for those that have been in leadership positions there is always the need for continuous improvement in leadership skills. Sessions run through November 13th, each Friday from 8am to noon with breaks between sessions.
Of the leadership concepts learned during the seminar, Lobina says each sort of play on each other, so its important to attend all three sessions.
"A lot of it really builds on two key aspects, and one is building trust with your team and how to go about doing that, and the other one is communication," Lobina explains. "So, if you examine how, you can inspire people through communication, motivate them, help them to grow, then you are going to be a leader."
