We may have reached our high temperature for today.
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to drop drastically tonight as a winter storm moves into the listening area. The weather service expects rain at first. It could turn to freezing rain, then snow; as much as three inches.
St. Joseph Police Chief Chris Connally says no matter what falls, drivers need to plan ahead and be careful.
“The thing I’m always more concern with is ice,” Connally says. “I haven’t seen anything about an ice warning, yet, so I’m glad of that. But, just really have to be careful when it comes to that; really be careful driving.”
Patchy, blowing snow is expected to continue into tomorrow and Friday.
Connally warns drivers not to place too much faith in that four-wheel-drive vehicle.
“A lot of cars are all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive and I know they accelerate a whole lot better in the snow in general, especially if they have good tires,” Connally says. “But they still don’t stop that well on the ice.”
The NWS expects temperatures to warm up Friday afternoon with patching, blowing snow still expected. Saturday is expected to be sunny and 45.
