Shirley Freed June 21, 1932-March 20, 2026

Shirley Colleen (Long) Brown Freed, 93, of Kansas City MO, passed away on March 20, 2026 at the Oregon care center.

She was born on June 21, 1932 to Johnny and Katherine (Hicks) Long in a log home near Forbes, MO.

She attended school in Forest City and Oregon, and graduated from Mound City High School.

Shirley married Tommy Brown on June 14, 1951 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and they had six children. Later they divorced, and she married Leroy Freed on April 26, 1986.

She had many jobs during her life, but the one she loved the most was the farm life.

She has preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Katherine (Hicks) Long; two sons, Jeffrey and Timothy Brown; son-in-law, Tom Bottiger; and granddaughter, Melissa Bottiger.

Survivors include her children, Vickie Bottiger, Robert (Karen) Brown, Gloria Morris, and Jennifer Brown; daughter-in-law, Susan Brown; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

She loved it when everyone gathered at the farm for get-togethers. She loved bottle feeding the calves, and caring for any animal that was in need. She enjoyed sewing and quilting in her spare time.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
