Kanta Narayan Mahtaney, aged 88, passed away on December 18, 2025 at Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, Missouri. She was born on November 16, 1937 in Hyderabad Sindh, to Rupchand and Sita Mahbubani.
She was most proud of her marriage to her now deceased spouse, Narayan K Mahtaney of almost 50 years. Whom she will finally join when he passed in 2012. They went on to have 2 wonderful children: Anita Pedemey and Madhu Gerstner. Through their marriages, they have been blessed to have 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Anita and Phillippe Pedemey gave Kanta Mahtaney not only Christophe and Stephane Pedemey but also 3 gorgeous great great granddaughters and 1 great grandson: Christophe's children are Mia and Ava Pedemey and Stephane children are Arya and Bryson Pedemey.
On the Gerstner side, George and Madhu Gerstner have been blessed with Christina and Bridget Gerstner, who just this year received Kanta's blessing on her upcoming nuptials.
Kanta has always had a love for traveling, cooking for family and friends. She cherished giving so much to all her family members throughout the years. Mom loved being a housewife and a mother of 2 children while living in West Africa and in India. It was not until her early 50s she decided to work for Publix as a bakery clerk and retired at age 65.
Kanta Mahtaney was predeceased by her spouse, Narayan K Mahtaney. Eldest sister, Drupadi Samtani, Kooj Mahbubani, Devki Binwani, and brother Pritam Mahbubani. She is survived by 2 remaining sisters, Poonam Uttamchandani and Monica Hathiramani and the youngest brother, Mohan Mahbubani.
Services will be held at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Chapel at 3609 Frederick Ave. St. Joseph, Missouri on Monday, December 22nd, 2025 at 9:30am. With cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, an organization on Alzheimer's we feel strongly about.
