Harold William Sparks, age 86, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on December 24, 2025.
Harold was born on February 24, 1939, in Whitesville, Missouri, to George Alfred Sparks Sr., who preceded him in death in 1962, and Ella Harriet (Poteet) Sparks, who passed in 1982.
He was united in marriage to Peggy Lee Johnson on March 6, 1964, and they shared a devoted marriage spanning more than six decades.
Harold attended Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting on October 3, 1956, and receiving an honorable discharge on September 10, 1958. He continued his service in the United States Navy Reserve, receiving an honorable discharge in October 1962. During his service, Harold was stationed in Adak, Alaska.
Throughout his working life, Harold was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked as a Teamster driving a cement truck in California, served with the St. Joseph Fire Department, and later became a proud member of Ironworkers Local 10, retiring at the age of 55.Harold was also a longtime member of the Grand Lodge of Missouri, Charity Zeredatha No. 189 A.F. & A.M., in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Harold had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle with friends, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren, whom he cherished. He especially loved sharing his passion for hunting with them and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Harold was preceded in death by his siblings: Freddie Ruth Berry, Gertrude Ethel O’Dell, Laura Marjorie Barnett, George Alfred Sparks Jr., Mamie Marie Sparks, Harvey Asa Sparks, Mae Ella Roseler, and Clarence Lee Sparks.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Lee Sparks; his brother, Arthur Dean Sparks; his children: Kelly Lin Coleman (Michael Coleman) and Harold W. Sparks “H.W.” (Wendy Lynn Sparks); grandchildren, Haley Sparks, David Sherman, Allison Watson-Sparks, Chris Watson, Logan Coleman (Grace Urich), and Jake Coleman (Jordan Coleman); great-grandchildren, Birdee Sparks, Grayson Watson, Sully Sherman, and Juliette Coleman, along with extended family members and friends.
Celebration of Life: 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7th at Antioch Bible Baptist Church, Gladstone, MO with visitation one hour prior to the service.
