The St. Joseph Mustangs are getting hot again, pushing their win streak to four games after defeating the Jefferson City Renegades 5-3 on Wednesday night in Jefferson City.
The Mustangs were unable to strike until the third inning when Lafayette alumni Brayden Luikart would single to drive in another Irish alum in Cole Slibowski, giving St. Joe a 1-0 lead.
Two more runs would come in the fifth as Easton Bruce would draw a bases loaded walk, scoring Slibowski again, and in the very next at bat Jeremy Rader would get hit by a pitch, scoring Luikart. The Mustangs would go on to get one more run in the sixth when Trevor McCollum doubled, driving in Savannah alumni Noah Bodenhausen.
The Renegades would try to rally back in the seventh, scoring three runs to narrow the lead to 4-3, but Michael Paule would put the game away with one more insurance run in the ninth, doubling to drive in Rader.
Savannah alumni Tyson Hilsabeck would throw 107 pitches over 6.1 innings, walking four and striking out four, while giving up the three runs. Jay Greco would earn the save pitching the final 2.2 innings of the game.
At the plate both Paule and Ryan Callahan recorded two hits on the night with Paule driving in one run.
The Mustangs are now 17-8 on the season and will be in Chillicothe on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
