Terry Lee Coats 65, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024 in Atchison. He was born November 22, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Esther and Everett Coats. Terry attended Atchison High School. On April 12, 2019 he married Jodi Shoup in Quincy, IL. Terry most recently worked as a laborer for Bob Mitchell. Terry enjoyed spending time traveling with friends, and riding his motorcycle. Terry loved life, always laid back and loved his time outdoors, especially around a bonfire or grilling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Judy (Rankin) Coats, step-son, Anthony King, and grandson, Dakota McKinney. Survivors include: wife, Jodi Coats of the home, daughter, Melissa Ernzen of Damascus, AR, step-children, Leanna (Hunter) Ellis, Krystina King, Wesley King, Jimmy King, Aaron King, and Rod Rankin, sisters, Jocelyn Giles, Michaela (Will) Wilson, and Dee Elaine, sister-in-law, Jennifer Buss, and brother-in-law, Jayson Shoup, grandchildren, Ricky, Amanda, Ashley, Noella, Destiny, Kaytlyn, and Karleigh, great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Mia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coats has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association.
