Donnie LaVelle Berry, 88, St. Joseph, Mo., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at a local health care facility.
He was born on December 26, 1935 to the late Truman and Jennie (Davidson) Berry in McFall, Missouri in Gentry County.
Donnie married Barbara Marcella Stock in June of 1952. Together they raised eight children and celebrated 71 years of marriage. Mrs. Berry preceded him in death in November of 2023.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean war era. During his career, He went on to become a supervisor at Stetson Hats in St. Joseph.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed antiques and was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Donnie was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Berry was preceded in death by brothers; Drexel and Paul Berry.
He is survived by his sons; Steve Berry (Tammy), Mark Berry, and Eric (Kara) Berry, daughters; Barbara (Byron) Weed, Debbie Griffith, Julia Hollars, Mary "Charlene" Berry, and Christine Fitzpatrick and brother; Larry Berry along with many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchild and great-great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Toby.
Prayer Service 11:00 AM, Tuesday at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel with Interment with Full Military Honors to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10-11 AM prior to the service also at our chapel.
