ROBINSON, KS Glenn D. “Bum” Garman, 67, formerly of Robinson, died Saturday morning, October 14, 2023, at Plaza West Care Center in Topeka. He formerly had been a resident of Highland Care Center for several years where he was known as “Brutus”.
Glenn was born November 28, 1955, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Lawrence Richard and Florence June Nockold Garman. They both precede him in death. Glenn also was preceded in death by three siblings: LaVena Marlene Garman, Richard Elon Garman and Vernon Eugene Garman.
Bum as he was known to his family and close friends, grew up at Englewood where he attended schools prior to graduating high school prior to attending vocational technical school in Kansas for welding. Bum later attended classes for certification for water department for the city of Goff. He wasn’t afraid to try any job once….to washing dishes, working at Wilde Tool in Hiawatha, auto mechanic, even driving a truck over the road for a freight company.
Glenn leaves for surviving siblings: Norman Garman of Colorado, Ollie Sample of Topeka, KS, Mark Garman of Collinsville, OK, and Brenda Garman of Hiawatha. Five children also survive: Stephanie Garman and Glenda Edwards, both in Colorado, a son Kenneth “Kenny” Garman in Washington, Hailey Garman of California, Harley Garman of Maryville, MO, three-step children Zeke Hughes and Wende Hughes, both in California, Patty Hughes in Kansas City; multiple grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha after 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Services are planned for 2:30 Friday October 20, 2023, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl officiating, Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson. Following graveside services, everyone is invited to joint the family at the Robinson Community Room for a time of fellowship and food.
