KC man sentenced to life for killing elderly Polo woman

A Kansas City man has been sentenced to life in prison after confessing to killing an elderly Polo woman.

29-year-old Harold Edwards, Jr. pleaded guilty in Caldwell County to the bludgeoning death of 96-year-old Lorene Fickess in May of 2022. Edwards killed Fickess and then set her rural Polo home on fire. Polo area firefighters found Fickess’ body in the burned ruins of her house on State Route D near Polo.

Edwards has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Edwards has also been sentenced to seven years in prison for possessing child pornography.
