The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up Rookie Mini camp, as over the weekend, over 100 rookies took the field for the Chiefs following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft.

A group of 104 players in attendance included all seven of the Chiefs' draft picks, 20 undrafted rookie free agent signees, one camp-eligible veteran and 76 rookie tryout players looking to make their mark.  And out of camp, the Chiefs signed three rookie free agents following a successful tryout.

Wide receiver Xavier Loyd, defensive back Marlen Sewell, and offensive tackle Kahlil Benson all managed to stand out among the group of 76 rookie tryouts, earning a roster spot.  In turn to make room for the rookies, Kansas City waived quarterback Jake Haener, defensive end Ethan Hurkett, and defensive tackle Zacch Pickens.

Loyd is a native of the Kansas City area and an alum Blue Springs High School.  Loyd spent time at Kansas State and Illinois State before wrapping up his career at Missouri in 2025, where he appeared in 13 games.  Between Missouri and Kansas State, Loyd had just three career receptions and 37 receiving yards over 23 games played.  His best season was at Illinois State when he had 66 catches for 912 yards and six touchdowns.

Sewell comes to Kansas City following a five-year career at Vanderbilt, where he appeared in 45 games. Notably, Sewell recorded 52 tackles, two passes defensed and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in 2025.  In his career with the Commodores, Sewell recorded 102 career tackles, no interceptions and three passes defended.

On the offensive line, Benson started 12 games at right tackle for the eventual national champion Indiana Hoosiers in 2025. Benson yielded 24 pressures on 382 pass-blocking snaps during that time.  In 33 career starts Benson has started 25 at right tackle and eight at right guard.
