Marilyn Jeanne (Waller) Vette

Marilyn Jeanne (Waller) Vette, 91, Cosby, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Vintage Gardens, in St. Joseph. 

Marilyn was born Aug. 11, 1932, the youngest of five children born to Josephine (Fisher) Waller and Sylvester S. Waller, in Hurlinger, Missouri. She was a 1950 graduate of Clarksdale High School, in Clarksdale, Missouri. She attended Platt Business School and went on to work at Westtab, in St. Joseph, for three years. She married Kenneth H. Vette on Aug. 29, 1953. She lived most of her life in the Cosby area on a dairy farm. She and Kenneth raised three daughters, Diane, Sharon, and Carla, and one son, Duane. After raising their children she enjoyed volunteering for OAKS, in Savannah, Missouri. She also worked at the Dinky Diner with    her daughter, Carla, in   St. Joseph, for 15 years.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and her daughter, Carla Cox; brothers, Merle Waller and Edward Waller; sisters, Rita McManus and Vera Miranda. 

Survivors include daughters, Diane Anselmo (Mark), of Katy, Texas, Sharon Smith (Glenn), of Cosby; son, Duane Vette (Mary), of Cosby; son-in-law, John Cox, in Cosby; granddaughters, Marissa Anselmo Hill (William IV), Cassandra Smith, Kiersten Vette Whitsell (Corey), Austin Vette, Evan Vette; and six great-grandchildren. 

Marilyn enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and planting flowers.

Public visitation for friends and family will be Monday, May 13, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, in St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the funeral home, with internment to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Cosby.
