The 2026 U.S. wheat harvest is nearing completion, with generally favorable yields and quality reported across most major classes. U.S. Wheat Associates says the Hard Red Winter wheat harvest is nearly finished, with only scattered irrigated and higher-elevation fields remaining. Soft Red Winter harvest is complete, with the crop grading U.S. Number Two and showing better protein and fewer defects than last year.
Soft White wheat harvest is also moving quickly, with winter varieties 83 percent complete and spring varieties 45 percent harvested. Hard Red Spring wheat harvest is now more than 40 percent complete, with early samples showing strong protein levels. Northern durum harvest has reached 25 percent. Attention is already beginning to shift toward fall planting, where drought conditions could affect more than half of winter wheat acreage.
