Betty Lorene Walker Hermann passed away peacefully on April 22 at home. She was born in Leavenworth, KS on August 28, 1932, to Abraham and Pearl Martin Walker. She was a lifelong Leavenworth resident except during her years as an Army wife. She married Robert Clark Hermann of Floral Park, NY on September 5, 1951, just days before he was deployed to the Korean War. Bob died suddenly in 1965, and Betty raised their children alone, devoting her life to them. She was always available to family and friends to help them in any way she could. She was famous for her Christmas cookie plates she shared, spending hours baking to brighten the holidays for others. She was adored by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved God and was active in the First Baptist Church, Job’s Daughters and Eastern Star.She is survived by her children Patti (Dan) Young of Leawood, KS, Bob Hermann and Jim Hermann of Leavenworth; 7 grandchildren: Jessica (Ryan) Wiedmaier, Michael Young (Hubert Izienicki), James Hermann, Chris Hermann, Cindy (Dan) Sparks, Derek Hermann (Sonya Brown), and Sarah (Larry) Hammond; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Ken Walker of Topeka and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Walker of Lansing. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Cynthia Louise, and brothers Herbert and Lowell Walker, and sisters-in-law Ruth and Freda Walker.The visitation will take place at the Davis Funeral Chapel from 5-7 pm on April 28. The funeral will be on April 29 at 11 am at Davis, followed by interment at the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, First Baptist Church of Leavenworth, Meals On Wheels, or your favorite charity.
