Richard Helton Sr. 82, of Easton, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025 in St Joseph.
He was born August 5, 1943 in St. Joseph, son of Martha and Ernest Helton. Richard graduated from Benton High School. Following high school he served in the U.S. Air National Guard at Rosecrans Airport. On January 11, 1969, he married Betty Filley. Richard worked at Belt Supermarket and Food-4-Less as a Meat Cutter, retiring after many years. He also owned and operated Helton Motors, retiring from the business after 40 years.
Richard was an avid KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan. He loved cars, and had a special place in his heart for his cats and cared for many of the homeless cats. He also enjoyed coaching girls softball in his younger years. Richard was a very loving, loyal, and very dedicated husband, father, and friend. People would say he is the most honest used car dealer around.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty June Helton, son, Roy Walker Jr., sister, Linda Dowell, and brother, Doyle Helton. Survivors include: children, Richard Helton, Jr. of St. Joseph, Shelly (Tony) Trauernicht of Craig, MO, Rhonda Walker of Helena, MO, Brian Walker of Binghamton, NY, and Eric Walker of St. Joseph, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Helton has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorials are requested to the Friends of the Animals Shelter.
