Melvin H. Sigrist, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Melvin was born June 15, 1936, to Henry and Clara (Stunz) Sigrist of Wathena, Kansas. He graduated from Wathena High School (Class of 1955).

Melvin married Delilah Richey on August 16, 1958.

He served in the U.S. Army – 1st Infantry Division (1958-1960) and Army Reserves (1960-1964).

Melvin worked at Western Weighing & Inspection Bureau – a division of the Railroads – for 40 years and was a member of the East Hills Optimist Club and American Legion organizations.

He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Norman Sigrist.

He is survived by his wife, Dee; two sons, Jeffrey and James; two grandsons, Timothy and Tyler; one daughter-in-law, Missy; two great-grandchildren, Tyson and Taylor; sister-in-law, Sarah Hayes; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Working; special cousin, Sharon Stunz Showalter; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Graveside Farewell Services and Inurnment 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 24, Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the East Hills Optimist Club.
