Donald David Hammond, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2025.
He was born July 19, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri to George and Martha (Green) Hammond. He grew up in Southern California, graduating from El Segundo High School.
The family relocated to Northwest Missouri, where Donald eventually started his 40-plus year as a truck driver, first for Globe Union, then Johnson Controls, and Ruan. He was a United Auto Workers union member and had served as chief steward.
On June 16, 1983, Donald married Catherine “Cathy” Scott. She survives of the home.
Donald had a passion for cars. In his earlier years, he raced cars in California. After retirement, he worked for Anderson Ford transporting vehicles between their dealership locations.
He enjoyed World War I and World War II documentaries, jet boats, collecting and refurbishing clocks, and going to estate sales to find antiques. He loved a good Western or Mob movie.
Donald was known and loved by many, but his family came first. He provided well for them, and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren, especially at his grandson’s Lafayette baseball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, George David Hammond; and sister, Rose Masterson.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Cathy; children, Tamara Rosenback (Ted), Ashley Shirley (Daniel), and Amy Hammond; stepchildren, Jery McConnachie and Janie McConnachie; son-in-law, Shawn Noland; grandchildren, Amelia Rosenback (Danny) and Carson Hammond; great-grandchildren, George Johnson and Brey Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Ginger.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 8, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Mount Olivet Mausoleum. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter or Lafayette Baseball.
