Local COVID-19 cases back on the rise; another death recorded

COVID-19 cases are trending back up locally, with St. Joseph health officials reporting 73 new cases and one additional death on Thursday.

Health officials report a man in his 70’s with underlying health conditions died of COVID-19.

Mosaic Life Care reports 55 COVID-19 patients were being treated at its St. Joseph hospital as of Thursday morning; one in Maryville.

Mosaic has now tested 40,406 area residents with 3,472 testing positive. Mosaic is awaiting results from 254 tests.

Buchanan County now reports a total of 3,705 coronavirus cases with 44 deaths.

Reports of new coronavirus cases had eased and had even fallen at the beginning of the week. St. Joseph health officials reported 26 new cases on Saturday and 29 on Sunday. On Monday, new cases fell to 21. Then, new cases began to climb, again, with 44 on Tuesday, 63 on Wednesday, and 73 on Thursday. 

Andrew County reported an additional death on its COVID-19 dashboard, bringing its death total of five. Andrew County reports eight new coronavirus cases, bringing its total since the pandemic began to 595.

Doniphan County, Kansas reports a total of 186 cases.

Missouri health officials report a total of 162,723 cases, resulting in 2,657 deaths.

Kansas health officials report a total of 74,456 cases with 952 deaths.
