The St. Joseph Sports Commission announced Wednesday that Bishop LeBlond girls' basketball coach Jackie Steltenpohl is the winner of the Bill Snyder Woman of Impact Award.
The Woman of Impact Award, which was established in 2022, recognizes a female athlete, coach, administrator or contributor who achieved an outstanding season or accomplishment over the past year.
Steltenpohl’s sixth season at LeBlond was her best yet, as she led the Golden Eagles to a 28-4 record, a district championship and a runner-up finish in the Class 2 Final Four in Springfield.
LeBlond advanced to their first Final Four since 1986 and it was their first state title game appearance since 1983.
Steltenpohl, along with the 2023 St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame class, will be honored on Sunday, August 27 during an enshrinement ceremony at the Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center. Social hour begins at 4 PM and the ceremony at 5 PM. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at stjomosports.com or by calling 816-233-6688.
The Woman of Impact Award is named in honor of coach Bill Snyder, who spoke of the strong impact his mother, Marionetta, made on his life during his own St. Joseph Sports Hall of Fame induction speech in 2021.
Snyder will be on hand to present the award to Steltenpohl in person. Missouri Western women's basketball coach Candi Whitaker won the first ever Bill Snyder Woman of Impact Award in 2022.
