Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly common tool on America's farms and ranches, according to a new survey, though many producers say they are still approaching the technology with caution.

Research conducted by MorganMyers found that 75% of farmers and ranchers have used artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini. Among those who have adopted the technology, nearly half report using AI at least once a week.

The survey found adoption is strongest among dairy producers, younger farmers and operators of larger agricultural businesses. In contrast, smaller farms, older producers and many row crop growers are less likely to incorporate AI into their daily operations.

MorganMyers Senior Vice President Greg Ehm said the findings suggest producers are willing to explore the technology rather than resist it.

"Our survey confirms they're trying it out and can already see areas where it delivers value," he said.

According to the survey, most farmers and ranchers are using AI for practical business functions, including research, communication, planning and administrative tasks, rather than replacing on-farm decision-making.

Despite growing interest, trust remains a significant hurdle to wider adoption. Many respondents said AI has considerable potential but emphasized that its recommendations still require human oversight and verification before being put into practice.

The survey concludes that broader acceptance of AI across agriculture will likely depend on demonstrated results, transparency in how AI systems generate information, and continued confidence that producers remain in control of critical management decisions.
