Lafayette sweeps Central, Savannah and Mid-Buch split doubleheader

The Lafayette boys' basketball team went on a 10-0 run in the first to take control early and the Irish fended off St. Joseph Central down the stretch in a 42-33 win over the Indians at Civic Arena Wednesday.

The games were part of the St. Joseph Area Sports Hall of Fame High School Holiday Hoops Classic.

Central (4-6) got down by as many as 14 and got to within four points in the third quarter, but never closer than that.

Antonio Williams led Lafayette (3-4) with 11 points. Jodell Redman had 8. Kyzdon Robertson wound up with 7.

Marquel Mayfield led the Indians with a game-high 12 points - all of that in the second half. Amonttay Henderson scored 10.

Lafayette girls dominate Central from start to finish

St. Joseph Central took a 3-2 lead on their first made basket of Wednesday's game - a three-pointer from Kylie Bachali.

Lafayette proceeded to unload on the Indians, reeling off a 27-0 run and the rest was pretty much history in a 55-8 win for the Irish on Wednesday at Civic Arena.

The Irish (6-1) are on a roll, having won four games in a row. Talicia Byrd led Lafayette with 12 points. Honor Mannings had 8. Emilee Dulcan, Destiny McDonald and Emery Omon all tallied 6 points in the win.

Central (0-10) made only three field goals in the entire game, the Indians never got to the free throw line and were doomed by 23 turnovers.

Girls - Savannah 36 Mid-Buchanan 32 - FINAL
The Savages (3-3) were led in scoring by Mylee Shrick, who had 10 points. Ella Scott and Rhyan Shrick both had nine points. Avani Kendzora led Mid-Buchanan (5-4) with 10 points. Myia Dillman and London Wilson both had 9.

Mid-Buchanan (5-4) turned a close game into a comfortable win Wednesday, scoring 19 fourth quarter points. Jackson Sauvage and Ian Campbell led the Dragons with 13 points each. Ian Wegenka had 10. Wyatt Jackson led the Savages (3-4) with 11.
