A portion of busy Frederick Avenue in St. Joseph will close for most of next week to allow Missouri American Water workers to replace an aging water pipe.
Missouri American says it is working to replace 2,725 feet of 12-inch pipe that has had several breaks in recent years.
The intersection of North 36th Street and Frederick Avenue will close beginning Monday, May 15th, and will remain closed until that Thursday, the 19th, weather permitting. The street will close 50 feet south of the intersection. The utility advises drivers to approach the intersection with caution.
Missouri American has become a massive water pipe replacement project on Frederick Avenue this year. The utility will replace 28,000 feet, or about five miles, of water pipe that has outlived its useful life in 2023. The Frederick Avenue project is projected to be completed this summer.
