Brooklyn Miller sets record, West Platte sweeps team titles in district track

St. Joseph Christian senior and Nebraska track and field commit Brooklyn Miller had four top three finishes at the Class 1 District 8 track meet Saturday at St. Joseph Christian High School.

Miller also broke the school record in 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.77 seconds to place second in the event. Miller also finished first in high jump (5 feet-5 inches) and javelin (124 feet-7 inches), and placed third in shot put (34 feet-9.5 inches) to qualify for the Class 1 section 4 meet on Saturday at Lafayette County.

In other Class 1 District 8 results, the Mound City boys and Platte Valley girls came away with the team titles. The Panthers boys won the 4x800 meter relay before senior Landon Poppa outlasted St. Joseph Christian’s Landon Swavey by five-hundredths of a second to win the 100 meter dash in 11.55 seconds.

Poppa was also part of wins in the 4x2 and 4x4 for the Panthers, while also winning the 200-meter dash.

Swavey won the 400 for St. Joseph Christian ahead of Bishop LeBlond’s Hayden Cross. On the girls' side, North Andrew’s Jaclyn Riedinger won the 3200 and 1600-meter races. St. Joseph Christian’s Charlee Stanley finished second in the 400-meter dash.

In the Class 2 District 8 meet at West Platte, the Blue Jays swept both the girls and boys’ team titles as the host school. The West Platte boys were led by Quinn O’Malley’s gold medals in the 100, 200, 400 and long jump.

Mid-Buchanan won the 4x2 and 4x4 while Reese McClurg took first in high jump. East Buchanan’s Cru Conaway, meanwhile, won the triple jump. On the girls’ side, East Buchanan’s Emma Klein took first in both the long jump and triple jump.

Lathrop’s Josie Wright won high jump, while Arissa Jackson won pole vault and javelin, and Avery Clay won shot put for the Mules as well.

The Class 2 Section 4 meet is set for Saturday at Lafayette County.
