Joanna J. Shaw 1941 - 2024

Joanna Jackson Shaw, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away at Carriage Square on May 4, 2024. 

She was born on August 27, 1941 to Walter A. and Mae Bowers Jackson in Devine, Texas.

She spent most of her life in St. Joseph, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1959. She was a devoted member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

She married George C. Shaw Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri.

Joanna worked as an antique dealer for 30 years and managed Penn Street Square Mall for 15 years, with her dog Baby Love at her side. She served as a member of Saint Joseph Historical Society, Pony Express Historical Society and Patee House Museum, where she was a volunteer and worked at the carousel and Jesse James House.

She was the great granddaughter of Bob and Anna Ingersoll, owners and operators of Lake Contrary Amusement Park.

She loved animals, dogs especially, having several throughout her life. She was a positive, wonderful, caring mother and grandmother. Her keen sense of humor, upbeat outlook on life and strong work ethic served her well. She was an avid planner and problem solver. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George C. Shaw Jr. and brother Edward W. Jackson of McKinney, Texas.

Survivors include her brother Lawrence A. Jackson, San Antonio, Texas, her children Jill Shaw, Kim Sechrest, Jilana Shaw, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 3:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 1:30 – 2:30 P.M.
