St. Joseph firefighters are investigating the cause of a large
fire that heavily damaged an auto shop.

Calls came in around 6:30 Wednesday evening after dark smoke
rose from Sherman Avenue, the location of Auto Medics. The fire heavily damaged
the building with portions of it falling in.

Smoke from the fire prompted St. Joseph police to warn drivers
to stay away from the area near Woodbine Road, with the heavy smoke even
causing some visibility problems on I-29 until firefighters got the blaze under
control.
