Area residents will have the opportunity to learn about cemetery preservation during a workshop Wednesday at Mount Mora in St. Joseph.

Kurt Jordan says Jonathan Appell will lead the workshop. Appell operates Atlas Preservation, based in Connecticut, and has been involved in cemetery preservation for over twenty-five years. He leads cemetery preservation workshops all over the country.

Jordan says, "We're incredibly fortunate that St. Joseph is the one and only stop Appell will make in the state of Missouri."

Jordan adds this is a very "hands-on expericence. You can grab a shovel or brush to help clean headstones. Appell walks people through the proper process for doing this sort of work." Participants will learn the most common and effective techniques to maintain gravestones.

The workshop begins at 9:00 Wednesday morning at Mount Mora and lasts until 3:00 p.m.

It was noted that participants are encouraged to bring snacks and dress appropriately for the weather. The workshop is free to attend.
