A 39 year old man found guilty of a gruesome assault in February of last year has been sentenced.

The Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney's Office reports Judge Patrick Robb sentenced Leryan Lewis to serve a total of 20 years in prison.

A jury found Lewis guilty after a two day trial in early January.

Lewis, who is from Mexico, Missouri, was convicted of assaulting a woman whom he had been in a romantic relationship with while sitting in her car at a St. Joseph gas station February 12th.

The victim testified that Lewis pulled her towards him and cut her neck and fingers with a razor blade. Bystanders at the gas station came to the victim's aid and police officers arrested Lewis at the scene.

Robb ordered Lewis to serve 15 years on the assault charge and 5 years on the armed criminal action charge. Lewis will serve these sentences consecutive to each other.
