Arthine B. Hunter, 105, a lifelong resident of Atchison, Kansas died peacefully July 12, 2023, at her residence.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday July 29th from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at the church.
Arthine was born September 17, 1917, in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of William Dudley, Sr., and Janie Woodyard Dudley. She attended Lincoln Elementary School in Atchison.
She and David M. Hunter, Sr. were united in marriage on November 14, 1934, at Zion Baptist Church in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Hunter preceded her in death on April 29, 1990.
Arthine was a homemaker first and foremost, but she occasionally assisted prominent families in their homes in Atchison with domestic responsibilities.
She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Atchison, Kansas. In her spare time, she enjoyed taking care of her family and was known as the Matriarch of her family. She enjoyed attending antique auctions and collecting antiques and was an expert at decorating and designing.
Arthine is survived by nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren including Ebony Knott who was a longtime caregiver for her great grandmother, and two great-great grandchildren. And a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her children, Alberta Mae Kelly and David Monroe Hunter, Jr.; siblings: six sisters, Eizabeth “Lizzy” Churchill; Lilly Churchill; Carrie Ann Snoddy; Louise Ross; Jeanette Dudley; Madge Ross; and four brothers, Clarence Dudley; James “Teensy” Dudley; Ralph Dudley and William “Bill” Dudley, Jr., grandchildren Mark Richard Kelly and Christopher Kelly.
