Spencer Arthur Habben, 27 of Smithville, MO passed away peacefully on December 23rd, with his loving family by his side.
Spencer was born on November 9, 1998 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Marcia Klostermann and Roy Habben. Spencer and family moved to Minneapolis, MN a year later where he spent the next 12 years living his beautiful life, making an impact on everyone he met. In 2011 the family moved to Kansas City where Spencer attended Maple Valley State School. Spencer graduated from Maple Valley in 2019, completing his Individual Education Program (IEP).
Spencer enjoyed going for van rides, taking in the scenery. He was an avid Chiefs fan and had fun watching games with family and friends. He loved music, being read to, mealtime and social interaction with those he loved; his family, his caregivers, his teachers and friends. Spencer also loved his pets – Copper, Charlie and PJ. Charlie, in particular, was like a secondary caregiver – protective and “right there” for him. Spencer had a huge support network who embraced all that he was and the gifts he shared with us.
After an amazing 27 years of life, Spencer had one more selfless gift to give – he became an organ donor so that others could live. Spencer has always been the essence of courage and love. Despite the hardships he had endured, he was a warrior and a great example of a life well lived, giving of himself to the very end. Spencer – Thank you for giving us the gift of You. May God bless you and keep you.
In lieu of flowers, Marcia would like to provide a financial bridge for Spencer’s caregivers who provided amazing healthcare, love and respite. Please make donations to Marcia Klostermann and she will distribute accordingly.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, MO with visitation one hour prior to the service.
