A tradition like no other is back this weekend at the Pony Express Museum in St. Joseph as Pumpkinfest takes over the streets.
It's the 27th year of the Halloween event taking place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in downtown St. Joseph.
Executive Director of the museum Cindy Daffron says Pumpkinfest every year draws in families from all around the region.
"You know a lady told me last year, she said Well you know my daughter called, I'm in Tarkio, she's in Platte City, oh meet me mom in St. Joe we're going to have a great day," Daffron tells host of the KFEQ Hotline Barry Birr. "So, you see it is that generational that for 27 years, you think about it, so the parents they brought their children now they're bringing their grandchildren, so it's just really a fun thing to see."
The traditional pumpkin mountain has been put up and will be lit up Friday and Saturday night at 8pm.
Daffron says throwing the switch to light up the mountain is a big deal
"Think about all the kids who have carved pumpkins from Bode to Truman to Cathedral to all of the St. Francis to Riverside, Spring Garden, I mean these people took pumpkins and I think what's interesting they will come, and they'll point theirs out," Daffron says. "It's so fun to watch and then people will start reading all of the logos."
Festivities begin downtown tomorrow at 5pm with a welcome ceremony at 4:55. Events on Saturday on Sunday will begin at noon.
