January 10, 1952 - January 4, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father Garry S Watson Sr.. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He departed from our lives on January 4, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and honor.

Garry S Watson Sr. was born on January 10, 1952 to his mother Dorothy (Botts) Watson and father Leroy E. Watson. He grew up in Elwood, KS, where he attended Elwood High School. Following High School he served in the United States Army. After his service in the military he worked at Seitz, Kansas State Penitentiary at Lansing, Swift/Monfort and W.R.D.C.C where he retired as a Correctional Officer of 23 years.

He married Mary Ann (Lake) Watson on September 23rd, 1972 and together they created a loving home for their children. His love and devotion to his family were unwavering, and he took great pride in the growth of his children and grandchildren.

Dad loved vacationing in Colorado, watching westerns, mowing the grass, scratching tickets and listening to old school music on drives. He enjoyed high school football games where he was known for his sideline chant “What time is it?? It’s red time!” and “Go Big Red” He loved Panther Football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Dorothy, brothers Donald Watson and Larry Watson, sisters L. Darlene Tapp, Rosemary Watson, Marva Watson, Bernice Dodd and Nieces and Nephews

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Watson of the home, his sons Garry S. Watson Jr. (Michele), Brandon Watson (Amanda), daughters April Watson and Jewel Watson-Crittendon (Aaron). His Twin Sister Jeri L. Watson, brothers, Glenn Watson Sr. (Ruth), John Roger Watson (Debbie), Michael Watson (Janice), sister Judy Watson-Simmons (Melvin). 12 beloved grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember him with gratitude and for the positive impact he had on our lives. May his memory serve as a reminder of the importance of Love and Family. He may be gone from our sight, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday January 13th, 2024 at First Baptist Church - 306 N 9th St. Elwood, KS 66024. Visitation begins at 1 P.M followed by the service which starts promptly at 3 P.M.

Memorials: Garry Watson Memorial Fund.

Family will be hosting a repass at the Elwood Community Center following the service.
