Tom Edlin, of Platte City, MO passed away, January 29, 2024.
Thomas Vincent Edlin, 92, a lifelong resident of Platte County, Missouri passed away peacefully at his home in Platte City on January 29, 2024, surrounded by family.
Tom was born January 6, 1932, near Platte City to Walter Thomas and Lillian Lucile (Wade) Edlin. He lived in Platte City until the age of ten when his parents purchased a farm near Dearborn and relocated. He attended Dearborn High School. Tom was a member of the Camden Point Baptist Church.
In January 1952, Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. On April 26, 1952, Tom was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jo Ann Haggard. Their first three years of marriage was spent in California where Tom was stationed at Camp Pendleton where he was in charge of the ammunition depot. After being honorably discharged, Tom returned to Platte County where he engaged in trucking and farming until his retirement. His early interests and hobbies included playing baseball, billiards at his uncle’s establishment, the Platte City Pool Hall, and mushroom hunting for which he had a keen eye. Tom traveled to Wyoming and Colorado many times hunting elk, moose, and deer. He also enjoyed and excelled at trapshooting. In May 1979, Tom won the Missouri Singles Championship and later that year along with his son, Gary, won the Parent & Child Championship at the Grand American in Vandalia, Ohio. Tom was inducted into the Missouri Trapshooters Hall of Fame in 2022. He was a life member of the Kansas City Trapshooter’s Association. Other interests included trading cars, a good meal, playing cards, and most of all spending time with his family. In his later years, Tom spent many hours at Gary’s shop spinning and sharing stories, helping his brother, Terry, fry fish and being entertained by Buster, the resident cat. Tom was quiet and reserved but had no problem offering his opinion.
Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Ann, his parents, and his brother, Terry W. Edlin.
He leaves behind daughters, Debbie Nusbaum and husband, Paul, Platte City, Missouri and Cheri Pickett and husband, Allen, Leawood, Kansas, and son, Gary Edlin and wife, Tammy, Liberty, Missouri, grandchildren, April Kolanchick (Josh), Tiffany Costello (Brad), Tara Brown (Zuri), Jessica Edlin (fiancé, Boo Murray), and Jaclyn Edlin, great-grandchildren, Madison Thornton, Garrett Thornton, Jackson Thornton, Scarlett Kolanchick, Aundrea Costello, Avery Costello, Gage Brown, and Atlas Brown, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Edlin, and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Heritage Village and Traditions Hospice for all they did to bring comfort and joy to Tom and his family.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Camden Point Baptist Church with visitation from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
