Wanda Lynn Shuman (Riesterer), 65, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born on March 11, 1961 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Vincent and Margaret Riesterer. She graduated from Benton High School in 1979, and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Missouri Western State College. Wanda worked as a nurse for 34 years, and devoted most of her career to the nursing home setting, where she served as both a nurse and Assistant Director of Nursing. In addition to her work in patient care, she taught CNA classes for many years at Carriage Square and also at Hillyard Technical Center, where she made a lasting impact on countless lives. Throughout her illness, many caregivers shared that Wanda was the reason they chose to remain in healthcare, a testament to her compassion, dedication, and influence.

Wanda was a devoted mother to her son, David, and a loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Dagan and Traytan. She enjoyed spending her time crocheting, sewing, reading, cheering on the Chiefs, and watching John Wayne movies, but most of all she cherished time spent with her family and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Bruce Riesterer.

She is survived by her son, David; daughter-in-law, Lene; grandsons, Dagan and Traytan; brothers, Mark Lawson and Rick Riesterer; sisters, Beth Shy, Brenda Thornton, and Debbie Holmes (Darrell Day); nieces and nephews, Jason Shy, Andi (Clint) Miljavac, Katie Riesterer, Chris O’Neal, Shae (Luke) Powers, and Brandon Thornton; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews, and her lifelong friend Cheryl Matthews.
