Stacy L. (Mauzey) Bye, 56, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026.

She was born October 31, 1969, in St. Joseph to Lawrence and Jeanie (Shroyer) Mauzey. Stacy grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Central High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State University, then her juris doctor degree at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.

Stacy worked as a corporate attorney for Deffenbaugh in Johnson County, Kansas, and was a founding member of COBRAGuard Insurance. In more recent years, Stacy was a corporate attorney for CBIZ Insurance.

A very intelligent, progressively empathetic person who was ahead of her time, Stacy was a tireless advocate for those who were less fortunate. She was a big advocate of civil rights and the Constitution, channeling that passion into work with the Innocence Project. She just wanted to help people in any way she could.

Stacy’s sons also remember the “Mom” side of her, fondly recalling family trips to Florida, Los Angeles, and Tennessee as well as her amazing biscuits and gravy.

Though her work wasn’t done, Stacy left an important impact on her family and her world.

Survivors include her sons, Ryan Fike and Dylan Bye (Quinn Lanigan); mother, Jeanie Burnham; father, Lawrence Mauzey (Barbar M. Wright); and siblings, Robin Larkin, Scott Burnham (Maria), Keith Burnham (Heather), and Kent Burnham (Amelia).

The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 8, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where attendees are invited to share stories at 7:00 P.M.
