After police K-9 Max was shot and killed last week on Wednesday, the city of St. Joseph has pulled together as a community to remember and honor Max.

Former banker Bob Dempster is helping to raise money, hoping to reach a $20,000 goal to pay for a memorial to Max.

“Obviously the price of the bronze is expensive, it may not be that expensive, but anything in excess over the cost of the memorial would go to the animal shelter for their purposes,” Dempster tells St. Joseph Post.

Dempster says the community responded quickly to death of Max.

“The city has received thousands of phone calls, what people can do to help and this is just a method to turn those requests into something tangible,” says Dempster.

You can donate to the cause through Max’s obituary on the Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory’s obituary page or through the specific page for Max on the Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri’s website
