St. Joseph firefighters responded to a structure fire early Friday morning and rescued one person.

Fire investigator with the St. Joseph Fire Department, Casey Crockett, says firefighters were called to the scene at 2025 Jamesport Street. "The garage portion of the house was fully involved." According to Crockett, the fire took place around 3:00 - 3:30 a.m.

According to Crockett there was black smoke coming out of the door when it was opened and the caller said there was someone possibly trapped inside.

Fire crews worked quickly and rescued the person inside, before extinguishing the blaze.

Crockett says the individual was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Firefighters from Engine 2, Quint 6, Engine 11, Rescue 10, Rescue 1, Truck 7, and Battalion Chief 33 responded to the scene.

The fire is under investigation.
