Vona J Moorman 1928 - 2024

Vona Jean Moorman, who lived in Mound City most of her adult life, died the evening of Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at the Tiffany Heights Nursing Home.

She had been an active member of the Mound City United Methodist Church and the Omega Club. For over 20 years she had a winter home in Punta Gorda, FL, where she was active in the Alligator Park social activities and had many friends.

A graduate of Mound City High School, for many years she was the school secretary. A gardener, superb cook, and avid walker, she loved entertaining and helping others. A highlight of her later years was serving as the Grand Marshal of the Mound City 4th of July parade in 2018.  

She was born October 19, 1928 to Gooley C. Crow and Pearl (Schaeffer) Crow.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 wonderful years, Willis “Bill” Eugene Moorman and her three children, Richard Lee Moorman, Michael Lance Moorman, and Jane Ann (Moorman) Gegen.  She also was preceded in death by her siblings: Harvey, Howard, and Robert Crow, Marguerite Laukemper, Lucille Norman, and Elizabeth Driver, and their spouses.  

Survivors include grandchildren, Curtis Gegen (Renee), Mound City; Maj. Alexandra Gegen (Lt Col. Ryan Huff), Wichita Falls, TX; and Cassandra Striplin (Josh), Carlinville, IL. Great-grandchildren are Graison Gegen, Aiden Striplin, Charlie Striplin, and Cora Gegen-Huff. She was much loved by her many nieces and nephews.

Services: Saturday, January 4, 2025, 12:00 pm, Mound City United Methodist Church, with family visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Private family inurnment: Mount Hope Cemetery.
