After falling on day one of the ITA NCAA Division II Singles Championships, Northwest Missouri State tennis player and No. 8-seed in the tournament Polina Gontaryk won in straights sets on day two.

The tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama began on Wednesday, with Gontaryk falling to North Georgia's Olesya Stokusova in the first round. Stokusova won the first set, 6-4 before Gontaryk battled back and held a 5-3 lead in the second set, before Stokusova rattled off four straight games to take the match in straight sets winning 7-5.  In her consolation match Thursday Gontaryk beat Chestnut Hill's Fabienne Lahn by scores of 6-0 and 6-1, back on the outdoors courts at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center after rain forced the event indoors on Wednesday.

Gontaryk is now 9-2 this fall and will continue in consolation action tomorrow against the. winner of the match between Lubbock Christian's Andrea De Barnardo and No. 2-seed Emily Buchanan of Mississippi College.
