John Richard "Dick" Pierce, 89, of Hamilton, MO passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at his home in Hamilton, MO. He was born August 18, 1933 in Portland, OR, son of Gwendolyn Pierce.
He attended the Columbia Academy in Battle Ground, WA. Dick married Shirley Mitts Carter on January 20, 1978 in Vancouver, WA. Dick spent many years working as a Welder for various off shore drilling rigs. Later Dick and Shirley co-owned the Heights Tavern in Vancouver. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge. Dick loved playing with trains and was a member of the Las Vegas Garden Railway Society.
His other hobbies included golfing, playing the accordion and guitar. He enjoyed bluegrass and country music and was an avid football fan, especially Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and KC Chiefs.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Rick and Mike Pierce and brother, Alan Pierce.
Survivors include wife, Shirley Pierce of the home, his children, Vickie (Dave) Gaines of Black Canyon, AZ, Kevin (Rhonda) Pierce of Vancouver, WA, step-children, Michael (Gale) Carter of Hamilton, MO, Leslie Carter of Longview, WA, Bill (Carrie) Carter of Basehor, KS and Debbie (Robert) Carlson of Pensacola, FL, brother, Larry (JoLynn) Pierce of Grand Junction, CO, sister-in-law, Pam Pierce of Brinnon, WA, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Pierce has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. With Dick's love for animals, the family suggests memorials to your local animal shelter.
