The Kansas City Royals managed just two hits in the opener against the New York Yankees, falling 4-1 at Yankee Stadium on Monday night to start the three game series.

The biggest of the two hits was the Royals lone score in the third inning, a solo home run from Bobby Witt Jr to left center field.  Witt Jr had the only other Kansas City hit as well, a single in the ninth inning.  The only other Royals baserunners were via walk, which Kansas City drew eight of on the day.

The Yankees tied the game up in the fourth inning, a solo home run from Jazz Chisolm Jr, before taking the lead in a three run fifth inning, first taking the lead on a home run from Trent Grisham.  Ben Rice and Austin Wells also hit home runs in the inning.

Seth Lugo took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season, pitching 6.2 innings giving up all four runs on seven hits, striking out four while walking two.  Witt Jr led the way hitting going 2-4 with one RBI.

Kansas City and New York continue their series tomorrow.  Michael Wacha takes the mound for the Royals against Max Fried for the Yankees.  First pitch is at 6:05pm, pregame coverage begins at 5:30 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3 FM).
