A 49-year-old Clarksdale woman has been killed in a multi-vehicle crash east of St. Joseph that shut down Missouri Route Six for nearly three hours.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the woman died at the hospital of injuries suffered in the four-vehicle crash near Bessie Ellison School early Monday evening as severe weather rolled into the area. The patrol is not releasing the name of the victim.

The patrol reports the victim was driving east on Route Six when her vehicle crossed the center line and struck the rear of another vehicle. The impact sent the SUV into a concrete barrier, returned to the roadway, crossed the center line again, and struck two other vehicles.

The Missouri Department of Transportation closed Route Six from Route W to Hurlingen Road for about two hours and 45 minutes while law enforcement responded to the chain-reaction crash.

The patrol reports three other people suffered minor injuries and one suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
