Joyce L. DeVader 1942 - 2024

Joyce L. DeVader, 82, of Holton, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at her home with her granddaughter, Brandy.  

She was born on May 15, 1942 in Burlingame, KS, later moving to Holton KS. She is the daughter of William and Helen Edwards Barton.

She married Richard “Dick” DeVader on December 29, 1956 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2019.

Joyce had lived in Holton for most of her life. She had been co-owner of Dick’s Service in Holton from 1977 to 1993, later staying home and helping Dick on the farm. Earlier in life she had worked at Slimaker Dress Factory for fifteen years.

Joyce was known for her smile and her infectious laugh. She loved butterflies and flowers, and she had the most caring heart. She loved to bake and share her creations with everyone (especially at Christmas).

Joyce was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Katherine Rose DeVader, who died in infancy, and a brother, Edward Barton.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Reino (Tim), Holton, Barbara Kathrens (Ed), Circleville, and Thelma Jean Wilson (Jeff), Mayetta, a brother, Robert “Bob” Barton, Carbondale, a sister, Janice Brenner, Osage City, seven grandchildren, Stephanie Krebs (Preston), Brandy Stephenson, Dawn Henry (Nathan), Amanda Brown (Bryon), Edward “Dub” Kathrens (Ashton), Todd Wilson (Alison), and Jeremy Wilson (Nicole), and numerous great grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to Noon on Friday, November 8th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.
