The Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph is launching a new identity for itself to help paint a clearer picture of what the council does in its mission to aid the arts around St. Joseph.

Director of Strategic Communications Brooke McBride says while the Allied Arts Council has been around for six decades and is well established, there was still confusion at times with what exactly the council did.

"As I was going out into the community and talking more and more about Allied Arts Council, I was hearing a lot of what is that? What does that mean?" McBride explains on the KFEQmunnity show. "So, we were learning that kind of in the arts world, there's a lot of alphabet soup."

So, the mission became to ensure that the Allied Arts Council was getting its name out there, McBride says, and helping people to understand what it does.

"We're not the ones that put on shows, or dances, but we're the ones that kind of go out in the community and go down to the state and we advocate for the arts in St. Joseph," McBride explains. "To make sure that it's accessible for everyone, that there's a diversity of programs, whether it's painting, dance, sculptures, and so we just wanted to start fresh."

To start fresh, the Allied Arts Council has updated to a new logo, its mission and vision, and now aims to help make the community more aware of that and what the council brings.

Executive Director Jessica Agnew says as you have eras with how art has changed, the new brand for the Allied Arts Council reflects that spirit.

"It's honoring the foundation that brought us here and brought Allied Arts to where we are today, but it's also creating space for new ideas and new audiences and new possibilities in the years ahead," Agnew says. "So, for us it was a case of being new ourselves and looking at what's been done and the amazing work that's been done before us, and how can we kind of increase that revitalization and be able to move forward into this new era."

To celebrate the launch, the Allied Arts Council will hold a ribbon cutting event today, at the Allied Arts Council offices, located at 118 S. 8th St. St. Joseph, MO. The ribbon cutting will take place at 4pm and is open to the public.
